This Sunday’s Grammys ceremony will include a transgender woman and man among the trophy presenters for the first time ever in the awards’ 59-year history. Recording Academy president Neil Portnow announced the shift toward a more representative show, saying, “music’s universal power lies in its spirit of inclusion.†He explained, “To be honest, the idea of a ‘trophy girl’ has felt antiquated for some time now … Who wrote that rule anyway? The ability to present a trophy has nothing to do with one’s gender.†Amen.
