Given John Carpenter’s history of less-than-forgiving reactions to those who take creative license with his work, it was no sure thing that he would entrust the Halloween franchise to new hands in our time. But what is the horror movie master good for if not a satisfying twist, and so Carpenter announced that his upcoming Halloween project has some unexpected collaborators. Carpenter, staying onboard as an executive producer and possible composer, is giving the Eastbound & Down team of Danny McBride and David Gordon a, yes, stab at the franchise. The duo will co-write the movie, with Gordon directing. Of their vision, Carpenter wrote on Facebook: “WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it. They blew me away.†We didn’t think Danny McBride was capable of things scarier than Eastbound & Down’s range of facial hair, so consider us bowled over ahead of schedule.
