In the new trailer for An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, this year’s follow-up to the 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore is out to rally audiences against a common enemy: denial, whether it takes the form of hopelessness, a refusal to believe in climate change, or a focus on extraplanetary exploration, the presumption being that Earth is too far gone to be saved. As the former vice-president points out, increasingly severe natural disasters have been greeted with both the invention of incredible new clean energy technologies and a U.S. president who has publicly doubted the veracity of global warming and vowed to defund the EPA. “The next generation would be justified in looking back at us and asking, what were you thinking?†Gore predicts. “Couldn’t you hear what the scientists were saying? Couldn’t you hear what Mother Nature was screaming at you?†Hear what Mother Nature is screaming at all of us on July 28, when the film debuts in theaters.
