Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez are starring in a remake of the 1987 romantic comedy Overboard. According to Variety, Faris and Derbez have signed on to star in a remake of the film, which originally starred Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. For the remake, the main roles will be swapped, and the film will “focus on a spoiled playboy from one of Mexico’s wealthiest families (Derbez) who falls overboard off his yacht. He’s then convinced by Faris’ single, working-class mom that he’s her husband.†Derbez is also credited as a producer on the remake, which will be co-directed and written by Rob Greenberg (How I Met Your Mother) and Bob Fisher (We’re the Millers, Wedding Crashers).
Overboard isn’t the only late ‘80s/early ‘90s comedy with a gender-swapped remake in the works; over at NBC, the network is currently developing a series based on What About Bob? called What About Barb? with Jessica Gunning and Leah Remini set to star.
