It’s 2017, and suddenly Hollywood loves old Hollywood musicals. Blame La La Land! Anyway, after the news last fall that Warner Bros. green-lit a new film adaptation of A Star Is Born — starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, and directed by Cooper — the studio’s theater arm has also enlisted Bill Condon (of Dreamgirls and Beauty and the Beast) to direct a stage version. The stage production will be based on the 1954 version of the film. While casting and timing haven’t been announced yet, we only hope that Condon digs into the film’s storied production history, and gets Tom Cruise and Beyoncé to tread the boards for a bit.
