Luke Skywalker Says His First Words in New Last Jedi Footage Privately Screened by Disney

At Disney’s annual shareholders meeting in Denver today, the house that Walt built screened the first footage of its next Star Wars saga entry. Attendees got a brief look at The Last Jedi that featured glimpses of General Leia Organa, Chewbacca, Finn, an X-Wing under attack, an unnamed character shouting, “It’s now or never,†and a host of new settings that Los Angeles Times reporter Daniel Miller described as “mountains, oceans, forests, deserts†that “look suitably epic, exotic.†The clip also apparently featured Luke Skywalker saying the words to Rey we’ve been wondering about since the two shared a very long emotional pause on a tempestuous island at the end of Force Awakens. After Rey hands Luke a lightsaber he reportedly says, “Who are you?†Which feels like kind of a letdown, but also what else was he supposed to say? She did drop in pretty unannounced. Now everyone can start speculating on what she says in response, and you don’t get to just say, “I’m Rey.†Try harder.
