Star Wars: The Last Jedi Won’t Change at All As a Result of Carrie Fisher’s Death

When Carrie Fisher died late last year, Star Wars fans found cold comfort in the confirmation that she had already completed filming on The Last Jedi. Now, Disney CEO Bob Iger is clarifying that the film’s story line will not be altered to reflect her passing or absence from future films. During a Q&A at USC on Thursday, Iger explained, “Carrie appears throughout VIII. We are not changing VIII to deal with her passing. Her performance — which we’re really pleased with — remains as it is in VIII.†The Disney honcho also echoed earlier promises by Lucasfilm that the franchise won’t digitally re-create Fisher, à la Peter Cushing in Rogue One. Between capping off another trilogy and concluding the story of an iconic character, Episode IX has an unenviable task ahead.
