In case you missed it, Jay-Z recently released the music video for “Moonlight” from his album 4:44, and with some help from Master of None’s Alan Yang directing, the video expertly recreates Friends with an all-black cast featuring Jerrod Carmichael, Issa Rae, Lil Rel Howery, Tiffany Haddish, and Tessa Thompson, complete with a special appearance by Hannibal Buress, who tells Carmichael what he thinks of the whole idea: “I just booked this role on Pirates of the Caribbean: Cruise Line. I play a parrot with a bad attitude, but he has a heart of gold. It’s terrible, but it’s way better than this shit.” Carmichael’s critically acclaimed NBC sitcom might have been canceled recently, but starring in this wonderfully dark, meta Jay-Z music video is a pretty solid way to bounce back.
