It’s no secret that the making of Mother! was tough on everyone: After the harrowing shoot, the studio moved up the release date a month, which meant director Darren Aronofsky spent his summer working 20-hour days to finish cutting the film — ask Jennifer Lawrence what that was like — and then he had to go take it to film festivals! While visiting IndieWire’s Filmmaker’s Toolkit podcast, Aronofsky explained that he was so beaten down from the months of constant activity that all he wanted to do for the near future was watch television. He then proceeded to list the programs he was most excited for, and my friends, I have to tell you that what followed was the most Aronofskian list of television shows ever assembled. “I just want to relax a little bit,†he explained, “catch up on Rick and Morty season three and Game of Thrones season seven. And The Deuce is coming out! Never mind Naked and Afraid XL, season three.†That’s right: Naked and Afraid, a show where people can’t even wear scarves! Utterly terrifying.
