Hours after YouTube star Logan Paul removed a video from his channel that showed an apparent suicide victim whose body he discovered in Japan’s notorious “suicide forest,†he has uploaded an apology for what he’s calling “a severe and continuous lapse of my judgement.†Noting the onslaught of criticism he’s faced after keeping the video live for 24 hours, he says, “I don’t expect to be forgiven.†Paul also explains that his and his crew’s controversial reactions depicted in the video — they are shown laughing and gawking at the body — were “raw and unfiltered†because the discovery was “unplanned,†and that he should have stopped filming and never uploaded the video.
He goes on to apologize to the internet, those triggered by the video, sufferers of mental illness, and the victim and his family. He has also requested that his fans, known as the Logang, stop defending his actions: “I do not deserve to be defended … I’m ashamed of myself. I’m disappointed in myself. And I promise to do better. I will do better.â€
