Following 2016’s New Year’s train wreck, Mariah Carey made a triumphant return to Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve tonight, performing a stunning version of “So Faithfully” and a medley of “Hero” and “Vision of Love” without a hitch. The main issue she encountered, it seemed, was the bitter New York cold — despite an impressive fur coat, Carey requested some hot tea after the first song. “They told me there would be tea. This is a disaster,” she joked. Hopefully next year’s event will feature both an adequate sound check and hot beverages.
