Two new comedy pilots are in the works at ABC. According to Deadline, the network has given pilot orders to single-cam comedies called Single Parents and Steps. From New Girl’s Liz Meriwether and J.J. Philbin, Single Parents centers on a group of “dysfunctional single parents†who “lean on each other as they raise their kids, look for love, and ultimately realize survival is only possible with the help of each other.†Meriwether also has a show in the works at Fox called Daddy Issues, which was given a pilot order earlier this week.
Steps, meanwhile, is written by Kristin Newman (The Muppets, The Mayor) and based on the Swedish series Bonus Family – an adaptation of the series was also in the works at NBC in 2016. The show centers on “four adults in three houses raise three kids after two divorces… together.†The Swedish series, Bonusfamiljen, debuted last year and is slated to film season 2 sometime in the spring.
