Video: Pete Davidson on ‘SNL,’ ‘Big Time Adolescence’

Pete Davidson Chats SNL and Starting Comedy As a Teenager

By

Pete Davidson candidly describes the high-stakes environment of being a young person trying to prove yourself on Saturday Night Live as “a nightmare” while at Vulture Spot at Sundance promoting his new movie, Big Time Adolescence. “Nobody really gives a shit until you’re 30,” he says. But at least Lorne Michaels is “the coolest one.”

Thankfully, in Big Time Adolescence, Davidson finally gets the chance to play the older, if not wiser, figure. His character, Zeke, is an “aggressively unmotivated college dropout” and the best friend of 16-year-old Mo, played by Griffin Gluck.

The script was inspired by first-time director Jason Orley’s own teenage years, and it sounds like Davidson drew inspiration from his own experiences as a young person in comedy. Orley shared that while coming up on the scene as a teenager, Davidson was surrounded by older comedians who were even twice his age. It’s no wonder that he later became one of the youngest cast members in SNL history.
