Andy Anderson, longtime drummer for the Cure, has died of cancer. He was 68. “Andy Anderson was A true gentleman and a great musician with a wicked sense of humor which he kept until the end, a testament to his beautiful spirit on the last journey,†wrote Cure keyboardist Lol Tolhurst, confirming Anderson’s death on Twitter. “We are blessed to have known him.†Tolhurst was the Cure’s original drummer, but switched to keyboards when Anderson joined the band. Anderson performed on the Cure’s first U.K. top-ten single, “The Love Cats.†After leaving the Cure, Anderson also drummed for Iggy Pop, The Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock, Edwyn Collins, Peter Gabriel, and Isaac Hayes. He issued solo music online under the name AAMuzik. Anderson disclosed his stage-four cancer diagnosis only last week on Facebook, but remained upbeat. “No Boo Hooing, here, just be positive, for me it’s just another life Experience and Hurdle, that one has to make yet another Choice in life, be cool, I most definitely am and positive about the situation,†he wrote.
