Ahead of the documentary Leaving Neverland’s premiere on HBO, members of the Jackson family are disputing allegations that Michael Jackson sexually abused two men when they were children. Tito, Marlon, Jackie, and Taj Jackson sat down with Gayle King on CBS This Morning on Wednesday, saying that Jackson was innocent, and that his accusers are only seeking money. “It’s always been about money,†Taj Jackson told King. “I hate to say it when it’s my uncle; it’s almost like they see a blank check. These people felt that they’re owed something. You know, instead of working for something, they blame everything on my uncle.â€
None of the men said they’ve seen the documentary, but all said that the accusers — Wade Robson and James Safechuck — have not offered any evidence to corroborate their accusations that Jackson sexually abused them for years. “I know my brother,†Jackie Jackson countered. “He’s my little brother. I know my brother. He’s not like that.â€
When King asked why the women in the Jackson family have remained silent on the accusations, Taj said that they didn’t want to spend more time disputing it. “I think there’s a fear, as well, to put more energy to it and more eyeballs to it,†he said. “I think that’s why my aunt Janet hasn’t said anything because she doesn’t want to make it any bigger.†Leaving Neverland will air on HBO this weekend.
