The Humans, a breakaway hit of a play that traveled from Chicago to Broadway and onward, is getting its inevitable silver-screen adaptation. Per Deadline, producer Scott Rudin, who also led the play to Broadway, has assembled a very starry cast for the film version, including Amy Schumer, Beanie Feldstein, Richard Jenkins, and Steven Yeun. The critically acclaimed play won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2016, and actress Jayne Houdyshell, who won a Tony for her turn as Deirdre in the original, is set to reprise her role in the movie. Playwright Stephen Karam is directing and adapting The Humans for the screen, making his film debut as a director (he previously wrote the screenplays for the film versions of Speech & Debate and The Seagull). If all goes well, we could just be a Humans TV show and Jayne Houdyshell spoken-word album away from an EGOT.
