More than a week after announcing he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, Jeopardy! icon Alex Trebek is checking in with us again to give a little update about his health. Well, maybe less about his health, per se, and more about how this Canadian treasure wants to thank us for the outpouring amount of support we’ve been sending along. “I just wanna take a few moments to say thanks to the, believe it or not, hundreds of thousands of people who have sent in tweets, texts, emails, cards, and letters wishing me well following my recent health announcement,†Trebek explained in a video released by the game show. “I’ve heard from former contestants. Even Watson, the IBM computer sent me a get-well card!†(Good boy, Watson.)
Trebek, who asserted he would be remaining as Jeopardy!’s host for the foreseeable future despite his diagnosis, added he’s lucky to have such kind and passionate fans. “Now obviously, I won’t be able to respond to all of you individually but I did want you to know that I do read everything I receive and I am thankful for the kind words, the prayers, and the advice you have offered, and I’m extremely touched by the warmth you have expressed in your comments to me,†he concluded. “I’m a lucky guy.†Before the cancer diagnosis, Trebek announced he had renewed his Jeopardy! contract until the 2020–21 season. Here’s hoping for a very speedy recovery in his future.
