Watch Solange’s When I Get Home Film

Because a Knowles woman will always outwork absolutely everyone, twice in one day we have a new project from Solange. She has dropped a whole dang film to go along with her whole dang album, When I Get Home, which your short attention span may have forgotten was released less than 24 hours ago. Solange previously teased the visuals on her Black Planet page — pole dancing! horses! a ranch! yee haw! — and on Instagram, in a teaser where she delightfully told us to call Mike Jones’s old number for more clues about her album. The companion film (an “interdisciplinary performance art film,†specifically) is now streaming as an Apple Music exclusive (no love for the family business, apparently.)

It’s directed by Solange herself, along with co-contributors Alan Ferguson (her husband, who also directed ASATT’s videos), Terence Nance, Jacolby Satterwhite, and Ray Tintori; Autumn Knight and Robert Pruitt also contributed. According to a press release, its premise is as follows: “The film is an exploration of origin, asking the question how much of ourselves do we bring with us versus leave behind in our evolution? The artist returned to Third Ward Houston to answer this.†Now go forth and feast on whatever inevitable visual splendor awaits!
