Oprah and 60 Minutes have consciously uncoupled. In a Hollywood Reporter cover story, Oprah revealed that she’s left her post as a “special contributor,†which she began in 2017. “I’m no longer doing that. I’ve removed myself from that,†Oprah told THR. She said she spoke to former 60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager, before reports of sexual harassment at the network were exposed, because she wanted to focus on her commitments with Apple. “It was an interesting experience for me,†she said of working at CBS. “I enjoyed working with the teams, and I’m probably going to work with some of the freelance people on my Apple stuff, but it was not the best format for me.â€
What exactly does “not the best format†mean, in Oprah-speak? Apparently that the people at 60 Minutes thought she spoke with too much emotion. “How should I say this? Never a good thing when I have to practice saying my name and have to be told that I have too much emotion in my name,†she dished. “It’s not that it didn’t sit very well. I did it. I think I did seven takes on just my name because it was ‘too emotional.’ I go, ‘Is the too much emotion in the ‘Oprah’ part or the ‘Winfrey’ part?’†Smell ya later, CBS!
