If you liked Widows — and of course you should love Widows — get ready for The Kitchen. Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss play Irish mob wives whose husbands are shipped off to prison. If the women don’t take charge of their lives they stand to lose everything — so no, this isn’t the comedy that list of names might make you assume it would be. It’s the directorial debut of screenwriter Andrea Berloff, who wrote the screenplay for The Kitchen and most notably penned Straight Outta Compton. McCarthy looks to be in ascended boss mode, and Moss could be the wives’ rising top assassin, with Haddish coming in to upend the expectations of everyone who didn’t want her “in the family†in the first place. The Kitchen, a room where these women are aggressively not staying, will be in theaters later this year.
