Is there any actress who serves haunted stares into the middle distance better than Riley Keough? It’s like she’s optimized for Old Dark House horror, since the only thing more mysterious than what goes bump in the night are the secrets behind her eyes! And her latest is The Lodge, which was well received during its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. In it, Keough stars as Grace, a woman trying to ingratiate herself to her new man’s children (Lola Reid and Jaden Jaeden Lieberher) by suggesting a weekend away. Unfortunately, the kids are pretty cold to her and they get themselves trapped in the middle of nowhere during a snowstorm. That’s plenty of time for the kids to realize Grace is the only surviving member of a suicide cult she escaped as a child. With the mood already tense, creepy things start happening around the house, and you have to wonder if Grace’s checkered past is returning to terrorize her. However, since The Lodge is from Goodnight Mommy directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, it’s possible these kids are just conspiring to drive her insane or kill her. Get haunted this fall.
