Better Call Saul’s Giancarlo Esposito Fights Like Gus Fring

Giancarlo Esposito on Embodying the Violence of Gus Fring

By

On both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Gus Fring’s violence is always sudden and terrifying. Giancarlo Esposito stopped by the Vulture Emmys lounge to talk about finding that energy inside himself. “All the things you see Gus do in those very quick movements … I do. And they’re always amazed on-set.” Esposito has trained in more than a few fighting styles, believes he was a warrior in a past life, and has seen 300 more than 500 times. It’s good that he has acting as an outlet for those aggressive tendencies: “I’m thankful that I’m an actor and can act it out and not have to play it out in real life.”
