Kesha’s New Song Asks: What If ‘Rich, White, Straight, Men’ Didn’t Rule the World Anymore?

If you heard a piercing, ecstatic whistle note in the last 24 hours, it was probably Kesha fans discovering the “Praying” singer had uploaded a new song, her first music of 2019, to YouTube on Sunday. The minor-key, carnival vibe of “Rich, White, Straight, Men” throws a sarcastic backing track under Kesha’s hopeful what-if fantasies. “You could ride a unicorn to school,” she muses. “If you fall off, you’d have healthcare.” And if you didn’t catch the tongue in her cheek, there’s also a male voice shouting, “No, you don’t!” In a video initially posted to Instagram, the singer said of the tune: “I don’t know where it’s going to go or what it’s going to be on. I don’t want it to just sit on my computer.” So here, let it sit in your brain instead.
