Lin-Manuel Miranda may be producing (and dropping by) a new show on Broadway and working hard on the film version of In the Heights, but he’s keeping as busy as ever with his film adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s Tick, Tick … Boom! According to Variety, Netflix has picked up the rights to Miranda’s directorial debut after a “heated bidding war†(one presumes Netflix threw out a Netflix amount of money, as it does). What’s more: Everyone’s favorite tall-haired former Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield, is reportedly the top choice to star in the movie, though there isn’t a deal set for that yet. Tick, Tick … Boom! is pretty much an autobiographical stage show Larson wrote before he penned the megahit that was Rent and his death just before that show’s first Off Broadway performance. It follows an aspiring theater composer named Jon in 1990 as he approaches his 30th birthday and worries about his career and his relationships and death et cetera. They’re all very Lin-Manuel Miranda themes, and indeed Miranda played Jon in an Encores! production of the show. Steven Levenson, who wrote the book for Dear Evan Hansen and worked with Miranda on Fosse/Verdon, is writing the script for this version of Tick, Tick … Boom! As for Andrew Garfield starring, is this what all those clues in Under the Silver Lake were actually about?
