Fresh off the announcement of her new album, Lover, Taylor Swift has released a lyric video for her new single. “You Need to Calm Down” takes aim at the haters, especially the anti-gay Twitter ones and the legislative ones. “Why are you mad/ When you could be GLAAD?” the song asks, presumably in reference to the Trump administration’s treatment of LGBTQ people. Swift penned a social media post at the start of Pride Month criticizing Trump, writing, “For American citizens to be denied jobs or housing based on who they love or how they identify, in my opinion is un-American and cruel.” So if you still have a Pride event to soundtrack, Taylor humbly offers this little ditty for all your resistance needs.
