Richard E. Grant will be perfect, beautiful, and looking like Linda Evangelista in the new film adaptation of stage musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. The Oscar nominee takes on the role of Hugo, also known as Loco Chanelle, a former drag queen. Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) and Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley) have also joined the cast of the British stage musical. The titular character will be played by newcomer Max Harwood.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie follows the true story of Jamie Campbell, a 16-year-old from a council estate in Sheffield who longs to wear a dress to the school dance. With help from his mentor, Hugo, (Grant), his mother (Lancashire), and his teacher (Horgan), Jamie comes into his own and gets comfortable in the spotlight.
The movie musical reunites the stage production’s team: director Jonathan Butterell, writer Tom MacRae, composer Dan Gillespie Sells, and choreographer Kate Prince. Everybody’s Talking About Jamie was nominated for five Oliver Awards and is currently running at the Apollo Theatre in London.
