Chance the Rapper has transformed into his final, live-action form: Chance the Bush Baby. Penning a note on Instagram with photos of him and his family at last night’s world premiere of The Lion King, the musician revealed he not only served as a stealth consultant for the film over the past year, but also lent his voice to a minor character. (The aforementioned Bush Baby. How cute!) “The original film was immensely impactful on my music and overall life,†Chance, a self-proclaimed Lion King devotee, wrote. “So when my big bro Donald got cast as Simba, he did the coolest thing ever and told director Jon Favreau to call me in as a consultant to keep the original flavor. So for about a year I would go to the LK studio and see early animations, scenes, music direction or assemblies and they’d always be out of this world amazing.â€
During a few days of consulting, Favreau encouraged Chance to “do some singing stuff†and “do some lines,†both of which end up in the final cut with his Bush Baby character. “It’s all a blur, but I’ll tell you it’s one of the best blurs of my whole life,†he added. “I am so blessed to know people like Donald and Jon, man.†Chance the Rapper — he ain’t no passing craze!
