The country-music takeover continues. Childish Gambino, also known as Donald Glover, went on Triple J’s radio show “Like a Version†and covered Garth Brooks’s “Lost in You†(which Brooks recorded under the name Chris Gaines). His slower, soulful version only requires a keyboardist and backup singers, and Gambino handles the rest. This is the world Beyoncé poofed into existence when she got onstage with the Dixie Chicks. This is the world Lil Nas X fought valiantly for with “Old Town Road.†Congratulations, we all live in the future. Donald Glover, who’s supposed to be working on Atlanta season three, has been teasing a final Childish Gambino album since “This Is America†came out in 2018. The new cover has nothing to do with that, but at least it’s music that isn’t just “Hakuna Matata.†At this rate, maybe, just maybe, we’ll get a little Rihanna collaboration, since the Guava Island stars both love to put off making music. Where’s the reggae, Rihanna? Where is it?
