HBO Max is stacking up its online-only content roster. One of their biggest announcements so far has been about the release of a Dune: The Sisterhood series that will center around the women of the Bene Gesserit. The network has committed to more female-fronted content with the announcement of another high-profile adaptation in the works. Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver will pen the script for a straight-to-series adaptation of the book Circe. The story revolves around the Greek goddess Circe, who goes from nymph to witch and becomes powerful enough to challenge gods and titans. According to Deadline, an HBO Max exec said it will, of course, be told “through the eyes of a fierce female lens.†HBO Max’s initial order is for eight episodes, and the company acquired the property in what was described as a “competitive situation,†because women are very trendy right now. But it’s going to have to be pretty amazing to top that Gossip Girl revival for most-anticipated series on the service.
