David Fincher’s new movie will follow the creator of the best boring movie ever, Citizen Kane. (Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life comes in second place.) According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gary Oldman will star as Orson Welles’s Citizen Kane co-writer, Herman Mankiewicz. Simply called Mank, the black-and-white film will follow newspaperman Mankiewicz, who transitioned from journalism to screenwriting in the 1920s. Mankiewicz worked on The Wizard of Oz, Pride of the Yankees, and more. But the drama surrounding Citizen Kane has led him to infamy. He and Welles fought over authorship credit and film fans took sides. Mank was written by Fincher’s father, Jack, who was also a journalist. This is David Fincher’s first film since 2014’s Gone Girl, another “he said, she said†drama for the ages.
