Someone clearly opened, lead, and closed the pitch meeting for Jumanji: The Next Level by banging their fists on the table and hollering, “Funny grandpas! Funny grandpas!†Based on the first trailer for the new Jumanji sequel, hey, maybe they had a point. In the new spot, Danny DeVito and Danny Glover co-star as Spencer’s Grandpa Eddie and his (presumably platonic?) grandpa friend Milo Walker. When Spencer, played by Hereditary’s Alex Wolff, gets sucked into the game, the gang must come to his rescue.
Only this time, whatever demonic energy powers Jumanji has shuffled our cast’s souls like a bunch of playing cards, leaving DeVito and Glover excitedly inhabiting the young, healthy bodies of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, respectively. “I have one important question: Who is Jumanji? Is that Barbara’s boy?,†they muse. “Are we in hell?†Hopefully not, but looks like we’ll find out for sure when the film opens in December, just in time for Christmas.
