Michael Jacksons fan groups are taking advantage of a French defamation law to sue two of Michael Jackson’s accusers over the documentary Leaving Neverland. James Safechuck and Wade Robson are being sued for €1 each by three Michael Jackson fan groups: the Michael Jackson Community, the MJ Street and On the Line. The groups’ lawyer called the documentary a “genuine lynching,†according to the Independent. The case is being held in France because there are defamation laws in France that make it an offense to defame the dead. “In France you cannot sully the image of the dead,†he said. “There’s moral and emotional suffering. And when there’s suffering, there’s compensation. It’s very simple.†The same lawyer represented the Michael Jackson Community in a case against Jackson’s doctor for his role in MJ’s death. Neither Robson and Safechuck did not appear in court or instruct lawyers to represent them.
