Last year, IFC ordered a musical sketch-comedy series from Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle titled Shermanâs Showcase, and ahead of its debut later this month, the network just dropped a clip from the show that confirms one sneaking suspicion about it: Itâs going to be very funny. Similar to Documentary Now!, Shermanâs Showcase is a look back through the 40-year history of a fictional, Soul Trainâ and In Living Colorâinspired musical variety show, with Salahuddin starring as the titular host Sherman McDaniel. In the new clip, a âclassic commercialâ from the show is unearthed promoting a new CD called Now Thatâs What I Call White Music, so black people can finally have all of the white-people music they love in one easy place. âYou all know these tunes. âRoxanneâ by Sting. âI Canât Go for Thatâ by Hall & Oates. The entire Steely Dan album Aja,â Sherman says. âWe got all the white songs black people fuck with on one CD!â
As previously revealed, guest stars slated to show up throughout Shermanâs Showcaseâs first season include executive producer John Legend, Tiffany Haddish, Common, Quincy Jones, Marlon Wayans, Ne-Yo, Lil Rel Howery, Tawny Newsome, Mike Judge, and the Lucas Brothers. IFC also released a new trailer today â check it out right here, then watch the rest when the series premieres Wednesday, July 31, at 10 p.m.
