The Six Sigma wheel of happiness domination doesn’t need a spot for politics after all. Per THR, a long-gestating 30 Rock spinoff starring Alec Baldwin’s Jack Donaghy has been scrapped after Baldwin decided not to reprise his character. The spinoff, written by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock for Comcast’s new streaming service, would’ve found Jack leaving his illustrious career at General Electric (RIP, Microwave Oven Programming) to become the mayor of New York, a career move Jack once considered after being mugged on the street. Interestingly, when Baldwin gave his official decline, Fey and Carlock retooled the script as a non–30 Rock spinoff for current NBC golden boy Ted Danson. The result is a sitcom with Danson playing a wealthy businessman who runs for the mayoralty of Los Angeles “for all the wrong reasons†but ends up winning the election, anyway. Good God!
