Being president is kind of like being a parent: It’s a thankless job. After advocating for the rapper A$AP Rocky while he was jailed in Sweden for assault, two Trump surrogates told Yahoo News that they’re disappointed that Rocky did not thank them or the White House for their efforts toward freeing him. When news of Rocky’s arrest started to go viral, Darrell Scott and Kareem Lanier (two of Trump’s associates) were contacted by Hassan Muhammad, a Hollywood “fixer†à la Olivia Pope. The two men agreed to reach out to Donald Trump on the condition that Rocky and his team “say thank you.†To which Scott says Rocky’s manager replied, “If a serial killer gets Rocky out of jail, I would have no problem saying thank you to the serial killer.†(The manager didn’t confirm whether or not he actually agreed to that.) After bringing it to Jared Kushner, who got Kanye and Kim Kardashian West involved, Trump announced his plans to contact the Swedish prime minister via Twitter. Throughout the rest of Rocky’s arrest in Sweden, Trump spoke to the prime minister, released a video statement regarding the arrest, sent the special presidential envoy for hostage affairs to the trial, and the U.S. Embassy reached out to have Rocky and his associates moved to a hotel. When Rocky came home, according to Scott and Lanier, they had little contact with him and then nothing. “Rocky hasn’t even called us and said, ‘Hey, man, thank you guys. I appreciate it,’ in private,†Scott said. “Just in private.†Being left on read is hard, but maybe they can sign up for that new MTV show, Ghosted?
