Katy Perry’s latest singles have been mining the spaces between love. “Never Really Over†was about the lingering feelings of a on-again-off-again relationship, and “Small Talk†mines that same territory. Isn’t it weird that we used to bang?, Perry asks. Yes, yes it is. “Small Talk†is less of a dancey dance song than “Never Really Over,†but you can still picture the empowering getting-her-life-together montage it could score in Act 3 of a romcom. Perry released a lyric video for “Small Talk†after spending the week at Google Camp, being rescued by Bradley Cooper and doing something for climate change, I think?
