If you suddenly found yourself on the other side, you could do a whole lot worse than hanging out with Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Daveed Diggs, Questlove, and Phylicia Rashad. According to Variety, Pixar announced the voice cast of their upcoming movie Soul at Disney’s D23 expo this weekend. Foxx will star as Joe, a jazz-loving middle-school music teacher who regrettably falls through an open sewer grate and finds himself in the great hereafter.
While you might think that would put the kibosh on Joe’s lifelong dream of playing at New York City jazz club the Blue Note, it sounds like he might still be able to achieve his heart’s desire, although he’ll have “some existential work to do before he might land his big gig.†And, oh boy, you are going to cry while he’s doing it!
Since Joe is such a fan of the Blue Note, Pixar got two of our greatest living jazz musicians to write the score: Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Just kidding about the jazz part, but the pair will be bringing their Oscar-winning composing skills to the film — provided, of course, there aren’t any open manholes or cellar doors near the studio. Soul will materialize in theaters on June 19, 2020.
