Back in May, lead actor Jason Mitchell was dropped from Showtime’s series The Chi following reports of alleged onset misconduct, which also caused him to lose his representation and an upcoming role in the Netflix film Desperados. On Friday, Showtime’s co-president of entertainment, Gary Levine, took a moment at a Television Critics Association event to explain how the network plans to handle the Straight Outta Compton actor’s exit prior to the series’ upcoming third season: “There is a lot of great life in The Chi, and there’s also death in The Chi, and that’s how we’ll be dealing with it.â€
According to reports earlier this year, series showrunner Ayanna Floyd and co-star Tiffany Boone were alleged recipients of Mitchell’s inappropriate conduct, which also reportedly continued on the set of Desperados. In May, Floyd told The Hollywood Reporter, “As showrunner, I did everything I could to deal with his behavior, by speaking with the studio’s HR department multiple times and instructing one actress to call HR herself, before I became a target of his rage and inappropriateness, and had to report him to HR, as well.â€
