In wake of the recent string of mass shootings across America, Universal Pictures has decided to cancel the release of The Hunt — a satirical thriller film starring Betty Gilpin, Emma Roberts, and Hilary Swank that revolves around a group of rich people who enjoy the yearly ritual of hunting strangers for sport. “After thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film,†a spokesperson said in a statement. “We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.†Earlier this week, Universal had begun to push back on the marketing campaign for the film, which included advertisements and a social-media imprint. President Trump also seemingly condemned the film’s premise on Twitter. The trailer is still available if you’re so inclined to watch it, though.
