Previously on 13 Reasons Why: Clay, Justin, and Jessica are left standing outside the high school, holding Tyler’s gun after talking him down from making a deadly mistake.
That’s just in case you, too, cannot recall the ending of 13 Reasons Why’s second season, even though the show tries so hard. The Netflix hit announced season three’s release date (August 23!) today. Plus, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the show will return for a fourth and final season featuring the characters’ high-school graduation. Deadline reported last year that a series renewal means huge pay raises for the main cast, with Dylan Minnette earning $200,000 per episode and the rest of the ensemble making $135,000 for season three (going up to $150,000 for season four).
Hopefully this quick refresher helps you interpret a few of the solemn yet so, so expensive faces in the 13 Reasons Why teaser trailer above. First, a Degrassi-style reintroduction of all the main players. Then, the reveal. Bryce Walker, famous for sexually assaulting two characters and for being a character everyone hates and no one is sad to see go … is dead. Hold your applause. We might be able to rule out one cause of death already. Sources told THR that season three will not feature a suicide, likely since season one’s depiction had to be reedited two years after airing. That potentially means someone murdered Bryce, and we all know who was holding that gun at the end of season two. Or it’ll be, like, a fatal football injury. Who knows with this show?
