Amber Ruffin Is Here to Educate You About Black Squirrels

During last night’s Late Night, Seth Meyers welcomed back writers Amber Ruffin and Jenny Hagel for a new round of “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell,” and as usual, the punch lines covered a little bit of everything. Like lesbian penguins, the Popeyes chicken sandwich (“‘It’s too spicy!’ said white people about the bun”), lesbians’ love for quick commitment, and the news that DC Comics will introduce a black Batman (“like regular Batman, except he only responds to the Wu-Tang symbol”). Ruffin also offered up some important knowledge when Meyers brought up a news story about why there are so many black squirrels in the U.S. “It turns out they were brought here against their will to prop up the economic system set up by white squirrels. You can learn more about it in the film 12 Years a Squirrel,” she said. “Sorry, did you think that joke was gonna work?” Meyers asked. “Much like the people who organized the slave trade,” Ruffin responds, “I didn’t really put a lot of thought into the consequences.”
