TV icon Norman Lear, 97, became the oldest person to ever win an Emmy award with his variety special, Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s All in the Family and the Jeffersons. The special, which Lear hosted and executive-produced, featured live recreations of episodes from All in the Family and its spin-off, The Jeffersons. The industry legend accepted the award by thanking Jimmy Kimmel, who was also an executive producer on the project. The special, which aired on ABC in May, boasted high ratings and gave the network its most-watched season-closer since 2007. With his win, Lear beats out the previous record-holder for oldest-ever Emmy winner, Sir David Attenborough. This is Lear’s 15th Emmy nomination and fifth win, and, we daresay, not his last.
