When you think about it, Peter Pan is just a guy showing up at the window of every preteen Darling girl and being like, “Come on an adventure with me!†before ultimately refusing to ever commit and choosing to remain in Neverland instead of just growing up. Dark. Deadline announced today that Ellen Burstyn; Emma Thompson; her daughter, Gaia Wise; and Livia De Paolis have all been cast in The Lost Girls, a movie about generations of Darling women reconciling their experiences with this fuccboi of sorts who haunts their bloodline. De Paolis, who will play Wendy, will also adapt and direct the film, based on the novel by Laurie Fox. Burstyn will play Wendy’s grandmother with Thompson in the role of her mother, and Wise as the youngest of them all, Berry.
The plot description puts a pretty chilling perspective on that old whimsical Peter Pan tale: “Like her grandmother and her mother Jane, Wendy must escape Pan’s hold on her and the promises he desperately wants her to keep. As her daughter Berry comes into Peter’s orbit, Wendy must fight to save her relationship with her daughter, while reconciling her legacy.†Lock the doors! Lock the windows! Peter Pan and his arrested-development issues are coming around again.
