Selena Gomez Preaches Self-love on ‘Lose You to Love Me’

Selena Gomez, in direct address to camera, tells us that she’s done with a toxic relationship in “Lose You to Love Me.†In her first single from her upcoming third album, Gomez talks about “rose-colored glasses†and a partner who “got off on the hurting.†We can surmise that this was probably Justin Bieber, but the song, co-written by Julia Michaels and Finneas O’Connell, among others, is appropriately vague with details. Gomez has had a difficult year, with a kidney transplant, mental-health issues, and two breakups. In a comment pinned to the music video, Gomez wrote, “This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album. I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself.†Considering that the single has already set the record for most pre-saves on Spotify ever, we’d say she’s off to a good start.
