In conversation with Gayle King, Megan Thee Stallion detailed her memories of the alleged 2020 shooting that she says left her needing physical therapy. Stallion said the altercation began as a normal argument with Canadian rapper Tory Lanez. “I was ready to go, and everybody else wasn’t ready to go. But that’s, like, normal friend stuff,†she told King. “So I get out of the car and it’s like everything happens so fast. And all I hear is this man screaming. And he said, ‘Dance, bitch.’ And he started shooting. And I’m just like, ‘Oh, my God.’†Megan told King that she was scared to move, lest Lanez shoot something that could cause irreparable damage. “If I take the wrong step, I don’t know if he’s gonna shoot something that’s, like, super important. I don’t know if he could shoot me and kill me,†she said. “I was really scared because I had never been shot at before.â€
“He’s apologizing. He’s like, ‘I’m so sorry. Please don’t tell nobody. I’ll give y’all a million dollars if y’all don’t say nothing,’†she recalled. “I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’â€
Medical reports obtained by CBS News confirmed that Meg still has “tiny fragments of retained missile†in her feet, deemed “too small to attempt retrieval.†CBS News also shared text messages from Kelsey Harris, the other woman in the car that night, telling Megan Thee Stallion’s bodyguard “Help†and “Tory shot Meg.†Megan denies having any type of intimate relationship with Lanez, laughing at Gayle King when she asks. “We were friends, we hung out like every day,†she explained. “His mom passed too, so I felt like we were bonding over that.†Lanez pleaded not guilty to three charges on November 18, 2020, and recently was judged to have violated a protective order against Megan Thee Stallion by making tweets that “seem to be clear messages†to her. Trial doesn’t begin until September 14, 2022. “I’m the victim,†she told King. “I’m not defending myself against anything. Something happened to me.â€
