There is no denying that regardless of what’s happening on the runway, in 2023 people were as eager as ever to dress well again. This was the year we (almost) all put away our pandemic sweats and engaged in dopamine dressing.
We saw so many girlie details like bows, ballet flats, and lace paired with more casual button-downs and trousers. We also saw an increase in playful accessories like ties and textured outwear. Lace and knits were practically unavoidable — on the runway, on the street, on the kids walking to school. And there were oh. so. many. skirts: maxi, mini, poofy, and pleated. But most important, everyone looked genuine — proof that personal style is alive and well.

If you didn’t know better, you would think this was the year of the skirt. Instead of focusing only on a mini, skirts of every length, texture, and variety were seen on the average citygoer with more and more people playing with layering. Of course we saw skirts over pants, but we also witnessed playfulness when pairing skirts of various lengths with different boots and socks. Kayra wore head-to-toe vintage.
