I’m currently hunkered down in my apartment, refusing to go outside in this frigid weather, so it brings me great joy to be writing about my favorite cozy sweatpants (yes, I’m wearing a pair right now). If you can relate and love a good elastic waistband, read on to shop the best sweatpants for women that are also editor-approved from brands like Alo Yoga and Hanes. Our Top Picks
The coziest sweats
Colors: 7 | Material: 67% cotton, 31% recycled polyester, 2% spandex | Sizes: XXS-XXL
I’m not too familiar with Aerie’s loungewear, but these fleece joggers are honestly making me want to buy the whole Offline collection. They’re softer than most of my pajama pants and have become my go-to work-from-home bottoms. The fit is also really flattering, which is kind of surprisingly considering how comfortable they are.
The sweats that could pass as real pants
Colors: 6 | Material: 50% cotton, 50% modal | Sizes: XS-XL
These are on the pricey side, but they’re worth it — trust me. The soft blend of cotton and modal makes them feel like sweatpants, but they can definitely pass as real pants if you style them with the matching top or a nice coat. I’ve been living in them all winter because they’re extra-long, stretchy, and breathable (two loungewear essentials in my book).
The best everyday pair
Colors: 14 | Material: 65 percent cotton, 35 percent polyester | Sizes: XXS-XXL
The Alo Accolades might just be my new favorite sweatpants. The baggy fit makes comfortable enough for all-day lounging, but the cinched elastic waistband makes them flattering enough to wear out and about. I’m five-foot-eight and have long legs, so it’s rare that size small sweatpants are the right length on me, but these pass the test (and don’t ride up throughout the day). I can even roll down the waistband for a more relaxed look without them being too short! The classic heather grey is perfect, but the Accolades are also available in several other neutral colors and a limited-edition bright green. I suggest wearing these in the fall and winter months, as they’re supersoft to the touch and a bit too cozy for summer.

The logo pair
Colors: 2 | Material: 100 percent cotton | Sizes: XS-XXL
If you don’t like your sweatpants to be overly baggy, try this 100 percent cotton pair from Dagne Dover. They’re made from soft yet stiff cotton that holds its shape, which I like in straight-leg sweats. The varsity-style logo is a fun retro detail.
The cropped pair
Colors: 1 | Material: 60 percent cotton, 40 percent recycled polyester | Sizes: XS-XL
Sustainably made from recycled materials, these sweatpants are warm and supremely soft. They feature a straight, slim fit that people who aren’t into the bulky-sweatpants look will appreciate. I’ve gotten so much wear out of mine over the years even though they’re a little bit short — size up if you’re tall or prefer a more oversize fit. The army-green pair I have are no longer available, but you can still shop these turquoise ones, as well as navy blue, heather grey, dusty rose, and brown colorways.
The stretchy sweats
Colors: 13 | Material: 50 percent polyester, 38 percent cotton, 12 percent rayon | Sizes: XS-XL
The softest of the supersoft sweats, these jogger-style sweatpants are the newest addition to my Sunday-morning uniform. They feature a thin elastic waistband that never feels too snug, plus they’re made from breathable and ultralightweight cotton that feels so cozy but not too hot. If the gold-heart detail isn’t your style, SPRWMN also makes plain straight-leg sweatpants and a fleece pair that’s embroidered with their brand logo.
The sweats with thick material
Colors: 22 | Material: 100 percent organic cotton | Sizes: XXS–XXL
Pangaia’s tiny branding makes these sweats instantly recognizable, and the vibrant purple color makes them stand out in my loungewear drawer. They’re made from a heavy-weight blend of organic and recycled cotton that feels durable and built to last — I’ve had mine for almost two years and they’ve still never lost their shape. I also own the matching hoodie and would definitely recommend it.
The best oversized sweats
Colors: 2 | Material: 100 percent organic cotton brush back fleece | Sizes: XXS–XXL
If you like the baggy, low-rise look, fashion writer Danya Issawi recommends these straight-leg sweats from Entire Studios. They feature a back patch pocket and an elastic waistband.
The new jeggings
Colors: 1 | Material: 100 percent cotton terry | Sizes: XXS–4XL
Yes, Rag & Bone makes a pair of sweatpants that are disguised as jeans — and they even have an elastic waistband. “They look just like denim down to the open pocket detailing, but they are 100 percent sweatpants,” Ware says. “They’re my lazy-day pants when I need to look like I put effort into my look but I’m really just wearing sweatpants.”
The pair with zipper pockets
Colors: 6 | Material: 100 percent cotton | Sizes: XXS-4XL
We are just as surprised as you that there are not one but two Kar-Jenner brands on this list. But trust us when we say that Kylie Jenner’s new venture Khy also makes sweatpants that feature a flattering, trouser-like fit. If you prefer a more tailored look, opt for these straight-leg ones over the Good American wide-leg pair. Senior social editor Sasha Mutchnik convinced a bunch of skeptics (a.k.a. the whole Cut Style team) that they are indeed worth the investment.
The sweats with the best size range
Colors: 26 | Material: 78 percent cotton, 22 percent polyester | Sizes: XXS–2XL and short, regular, and tall lengths
These are the type of sweatpants you’ll want to wear to Trader Joe’s with cool sunglasses and a trench coat overtop, you know? The low-rise boyfriend fit is just as stylish as it is comfortable, plus the elastic cuffs make it easy to show off your favorite sneakers. They’re available in a wide range of sizes and lengths and just about every color you could think of. Deputy style editor Joanna Nikas loves them.
The best sweatpants for travel
Colors: 11 | Material: 95 percent TENCEL modal, 5 percent spandex | Sizes: XXS–2X
Bleusalt has mastered the chic but comfortable sweatpant. Bianca Nieves, our shopping editor, always wears hers when traveling. It provides the comfort of a legging without the restriction.
The high-rise pair
Colors: 26 | Material: 78 percent cotton, 22 percent polyester | Sizes: XS–XXL
It doesn’t get any more classic than Champion. The roomy fit allows you to dress them up or down.
And the low-rise pair
Colors: 3 | Material: 100 percent BCI cotton fleece | Sizes: XXS–XXL
Not sure which we love more: Kotn’s sweatpants or Kotn’s socks. All we know is that when worn together, you’ve reached peak cozy.
The best affordable sweatpants
Colors: 9 | Material: 50 percent cotton, 50 percent polyester | Sizes: S–3X
It’s hard to beat this price. Just think of how good it’ll feel when people mistake these for a much more expensive designer pair. Plus the cinched cuffs and waist give it a tailored look.
