Remember that clip where the Irish newscaster says “Don’t make unnecessary journeys†and then gets hit by a stop sign? Well, that never actually happened. She did say the line, but the stop sign is fully edited in. She’s safe! Anderson Cooper was less lucky. While reporting on Hurricane Milton in Florida, CNN sent the reporter out in the wind and the rain (also known as the blistering gales and the torrential downpour), and while reporting, he got hit by a piece of flying debris. Honestly, the fact that the debris made a thump sound is a compliment to Cooper’s solid stance — that guy wasn’t going anywhere. “Whoa! Okay! That wasn’t good,†he said in response. “We’ll probably go inside shortly.†Then he proceeded to report for seven more minutes while outside in the middle of a hurricane.

On social media, people began empathizing with Cooper’s plight. “Get my sweet porcelain glass anchor inside,†one fan tweeted. Others saw this video through the lens of Cooper’s forced New Year’s Eve sobriety in 2023, tweeting about how CNN needs to let him drink when we ring in 2025. Honestly, we hope he’s drinking now. Get him a hot toddy and a Latino.
