Oh, your wife’s in a coma after a tragic accident? That’s not the truth, Jeremy. Dakota Johnson returns to the world of publishing as Colleen Hoover’s most bewildering protagonist in the film adaption of Verity, per Deadline, a role she must have been preparing for her entire life. Josh Hartnett, caught in a dark-romance trap, co-stars as Jeremy Crawford, husband to Anne Hathaway’s Verity, a novelist who is in a coma after a car crash. Hathaway knows what the people want. And what the people want, apparently, is BookTok adaptations. Unlike The Idea of You, based on the novel of the same name, this book is a modern psychological thriller following Johnson’s Lowen Ashleigh as she’s hired to finish Verity’s unfinished series. Except … its widely regarded as Hoover’s most deranged novel, venturing into the paranormal as Lowen uncovers secrets between Verity and her husband.
Michael Showalter, Hathaway’s Idea of You director, will direct this project as well, also for Amazon MGM. This one, however, will release in theaters, following the financial success of the Blake Lively–starring Hoover adaptation, It Ends With Us. As for what Hathaway’s next BookTok project should be, we hope she stars as both the boys in The Song of Achilles.
