Two of the most posting posters, Azealia Banks and the 1975’s Matty Healy, got into it on social media this week. Can you believe? The altercation started with Banks dissing Charli XCX (though really dissing Weho gays), and somehow ended with Healy threatening to slap Banks and Banks threatening to sue Healy. At one point, Healy’s oral hygiene was called into question. And now Banks is demanding $1 million in damages from Healy. How did we get here?

How did this start?

Technically, Azealia Banks tweeted something positive about Sucker-era Charli XCX. Banks retweeted the video for “Break the Rules,” writing “Charli used to be soooo pretty. Ugh. Boaaa, I swear them weho gays be having the girls questioning themselves meanwhile they all scraping k off a cookie sheet, eating cold bossanova and sharing panties. Tuh.”

Matty Healy responded defending Charli. “Azealia you seem to have a blind spot when it comes to your ‘reads’. All the women you attack seem to be culturally relevant, attractive, divisive and NICE people. I think this makes you jealous cos you’re so talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap bro.”

Matty Healy has learned nothing from the 2022 Oscars

Healy also seemingly preemptively defend his fiancée, Gabriette Bechtel. “And on that point if I see one little shit bag twitter barista say ONE thing about my Gabi, EVER, I will use my mental illness to full affect and I will dox and fuck you up,” he wrote in a now-deleted tweet. “I’m so over pretending to have different standards online cos it’s ‘not real’. Well, a fuckin slap is.”

Banks took the bait, saying Gabriette looks like Frankenstein and accusing her and Healy of sharing needles. In another deleted tweet, Healy said he’d “fucking slap you so hard I’ll get a Guinness world record for the highest a rat some bitch calls a wig has ever flown.” Guys, we can’t be slapping at award shows! It results in such severe think-piece runoff that the L.A. River is only now recovering.

Healy backed down

Azealia Banks threatened to sue, and Healy backed off. “Nah fr I was just trying to match your vibe im scared now im sorry bro, i was just sticking up for my mates. Im not tough lol,” he wrote. Also Banks gave Healy advice on preventing gingivitis.

Healy promised to pop off less and be in the studio more. “Guys I don’t have the right kind of intelligence / emotional maturity etc for social media I literally just end up saying stuff that immediately regret etc. I’m actually just gonna stick to music cos I’m good at that. Having manic episodes on twitter at 35 is kinda pathetic,” he tweeted. So maybe some self-insight came from all this?

Lawyers are now involved

On December 8, Azealia Banks shared a cease and desist to Healy on Twitter. The letter, dated December 7, is from Wallace J. Collins III in New York City, who confirmed the doc’s legitimacy to The Hollywood Reporter. “Your attacks against my client’s professional reputation, your overt racial epithets and your most recent threats of physical violence against my client have been well-documented since you published them worldwide online,” the letter reads. While Healy has since deactivated his Twitter and deleted the tweets, Banks’s attorneys argue “Your removal of the damaging attack posts and your acknowledgement that your reaction was inappropriate does not undo the damage, but rather constitutes evidence of an admission of guilt by you.” Besides ceasing all demeaning and damaging comments, Banks’s attorney is asking for $1 million in damages.
